? Hamanasu is a shrub of the Rosaceae genus Rose. It is native to East Asia, including Japan, and has been native to northern Japan's beaches for a long time. It was cultivated in Hokkaido before the war to collect essential oils. Hamanashi Rose is rich in tannins (Vitamin C) which help compound collagen and prevent age spots and/or sagging skin while maintaining luminous skin.

? Hamanasu was originally called Hamanashi because it bears pear-like fruits, but it is said that it has come to be called Hamanasu due to the Tohoku dialect.

? Philipp Franz Balthasar von Siebold (17 February 1796 – 18 October 1866), a German doctor at Dejima in Nagasaki during the Edo period, brought it back to the Netherlands. He returned to Japan, and Hamanasu was introduced to Europe. After that, it seems that various varieties were born by being mixed with other roses.

? Hamanasu is also called "Japanese rose" in English, and its essential oil is full of the high-quality scent of a rose as it is named.
