By According to a reports, 61 percent of brand named lipsticks tested containing lead. But what’s even more disturbing is that none of them listed it as an ingredient. Now I’m not going be name dropping any of these brands……… I’m sure if you do a bit of research, you’ll find out exact which companies they are. Some of these lead contaminated lipsticks are from the biggest most well known companies in the cosmetic industry.
Now you may be asking, “what is so harmful with lead”?
Lead is a proven neurotoxin and constant exposure can cause a range of health related issues, in particular for pregnant women and their children which become more vulnerable to its toxic effects. Lead can cause miscarriage, infertility, reproductive issues, behavioral problems and learning difficulties.
Small quantities of lead can be insignificant to cause any health problems. But lead-containing lipstick is usually applied several times a day, 5 – 6 days a week and consumed in small quantities. Lead can build up in the body over time posing a risk to your health.
For decades the cosmetics industry has worked to “minimize all product contamination, including lead”. But sadly, lead hasn’t been eliminated and IS STILL PRESENT IN MANY BIG BRAND LIPSTICKS. Why? Because the regulating authorities allow an acceptable level of lead to be used in your cosmetic products. “What a load of BULL”.
So what can you do?
There are many truly natural and organic lipsticks out there in the cosmetic market that does not contain lead or any other nasty chemical ingredients. When shopping for an organic lipstick, be sure to go with a trusted organic brand. Knowing that your brand is toxic free, your only concern will be seeking out the right colours and shades.
