Kill The Nasty Flu Virus With a Hot Drink

Winter is fast approaching. This means the flu virus is on its way.

The problem with the flu virus is that it’s highly contagious and travels long and far. A powerful sneeze can cause the virus to travel 30 metres across the  room.

When we cough or sneeze, microscopic droplets of water and the virus enter the air. Dry, cold conditions in winter or an air conditioned office dry out the droplets, helping the virus linger in the air. The dry air also dries out nasal passages, which helps the virus stick.

That’s scary. If you are stuck in the office with just one of these flu ridden carriers, you could become easily infected if your immune system is not at full force.

Preparing yourself with a strong immune system is necessary. But what I’ve noticed is that a hot drink throughout the day really helps to fight off this nasty virus. Research shows that drinking lots of hot fluids can effectively impair viral replication and relieve nasal stuffiness.

The Flu virus loves the cooler drier temperature. When the surroundings heats up, the virus quickly gets stressed and will replicate at a much slower speed. Having regular hot drinks in the winter is a great way to prevent and fight off the influenza virus.

So what hot beverage in the winter provides the best flu remedy?

TEA, TEA and MORE TEA.

It doesn’t matter what tea. As long as it’s tea.  Chamomile tea, peppermint, ginger tea or lemon tea, garlic tea are powerful cold remedies to elevate your immune system. Ginger tea is one of the best as it contains a complex of anti-viral compounds to attack the flu virus. Simply slice or grate some ginger in hot water and start sipping.

Garlic and lemon tea is also a great flu fighting combination. Crushed garlic releases a compound called allicin sativum, which is a natural antibiotic that fights viral and bacterial infections.

To ease the taste, add some honey (preferably Manuka Honey) to make it more drinkable.
