Homemade Hair Conditioners

Home made soaps, skin care and hair care products have become increasingly popular for those with a creative mind who’s looking for something less toxic and more affordable.

You can do alot with homemade hair conditioners. There are so many creative ways you can combine nature’s organic ingredients to unlock your hair’s natural shine, causing less tangling, strengthening the hair cuticle, preventing split ends and making your strands softer.

Homemade deep conditioners are a great choice for those who are sick and tired of the toxic mainstream hair products.

Here are a few recipes for you to play around with.

In the following homemade hair conditioner recipes, I’ll be using ingredients like avocado, olive oil, egg, coconut milk, mayonnaise as the main base ingredients which act as humectants. They trap in the moisture and keep it locked so that the hair shaft can receive the moisture it needs. Make sure that all ingredients used must be fresh.

Recipe 1 – Avocado Mayonnaise Deep Conditioner

This is a deep conditioning recipe to treat dry brittle hair. One treatment will leave your hair moisturised and hydrated.

Mix 1 avocado and half a bottle of  mayonnaise in a bowl until a creamy thick consistency is achieved

Apply on hair after shampooing  and trap in the moisture with a shower cap.

Leave for 10 – 15 minutes until the ingredients are fully absorbed into the scalp and strands

Rinse off with shampoo using lukewarm water.

Recipe 2 Honey Egg Conditioner Mask

Natural homemade conditioners can also be used as hair masks by those who are looking for two in one treatments. This is a hair mask treatment to repair damaged hair and split ends.

Mix 2 egg yolks and 6 table spoon of olive oil along with 3 table spoons  of honey into a bowl until a rich smooth consistency is achieved.

Apply to dry hair after shampooing and put a shower cap.

Leave for 20 – 30 minutes. If hair is really damaged, then leave on for 45 minutes to 1 hour

Rinse off with shampoo using lukewarm water. Facial mask can be easily rinsed off, this hair conditioning mask may take a little bit more effort.

Recipe 3 – Olive Oil & Coconut Protein Treatment Conditioner

This will bring the shine and volume back to your hair. One treatment will bring out the shine and make your hair.

Mix 8 table spoons of olive oil with half  cup of coconut milk along with 1 egg (white and yolk), 2 table spoons of honey and 1 capsule of vitamin E oil

Apply to dry hair after shampooing and put a shower cap.

Leave for 20 – 30 minutes.

Rinse off with shampoo using lukewarm water

Recipe 4 – Aromatic Tea Conditioner

Tea can make a great hair conditioner.

Boil a cup of water and  add a tablespoon of dried thyme, a teaspoon of dried peppermint leafs, one teaspoon of chamomile leaves and a teaspoon of cranberry juice. When the tea is cooled, apply using your fingers to massage into the scalp and hair ends

Leave for 10 minutes

Rinse off with shampoo using lukewarm water.

Recipe 5 – Castor Oil Hair Loss Conditioner

For those struggling with hair loss, this homemade formulation maybe worth a try.

Mix castor oil and rosemary oil and apply on the scalp and massage into the hair roots. Make sure that you are feeding the scalp with the castor oil. Make sure your hair is clean and dry when applying.

Leave the treatment overnight wearing a shower cap or wrapped in glad wrap plastic or leave for 5 – 6 hours.

Rinse off thoroughly with shampoo using lukewarm water.

This treatment cannot be used on your hair more than once a week, as more treatments might have the opposite effect.
