In the dark with dim lighting, wrinkles, fine lines and blemishes around the eyes are difficult to spot. It is during the day, under the unforgiving sunlight and strong flourescent lighting that every skin blemish becomes noticeable. Makeup concealers help hide the imperfections, and is great at covering fine lines and dark eye circles. But the effects can back fire on you if concealers are not applied correctly. You end up with a creasing caking effect that can become worst than the blemishes themselves, and you end up with an uneven look that can become embarrassing to show.
Here are a few eye concealer tricks and trades you can employ to avoid the cracks from settling in.
So what is the trick?
The trick is to first apply a layer of light weight moisturiser / lotion to hydrate and moisten the skin in preparation for the foundation and concealer.
Choose the right Colour
The wrong concealer tone and shade can be disastrous. No matter how good your makeup skills are, using the incorrect shade will make your makeup appear caked on. The concealer should brighten up the skin around the eyes. If it doesn’t give your skin the slight brightening effect, the shade is most probably too dark.
Choose the right Texture
You want a foundation and concealer that is creamy in texture and lightweight to apply. If it looks too powdery after application, it is probably too lightweight. A cakey concealer that is too dry is bad news because it can highlight every fine line and wrinkle you have around the eyes.
Tips for Dark Eye Circles
If you have dark circles, consider applying a peach corrector first to counteract the greenish-purple tones. Layer on more as needed, remembering to let the product dry in between applications. A concealer in a tone one shade darker than your skin tone can sometimes blend in with darker circles more naturally.
Use a good concealer brush
Fingers are good for quick easy application. But using a good concealer brush in combination with your fingers makes a world of difference when it comes to the delicate areas of your eyes. Start at the darkest part of the under-eye area and lightly tap on concealer. Lightly pat with your finger to help set.
Concealer Touch Up
There is no need to reapply more concealer throughout the day. To refresh your concealer, a little dab of eye cream will bring it back to life, helping to redistribute any runaway product.
