I’ve heard of the potent antioxidant effects of blueberries, but research have discovered that the fruit can also be a powerful weapon in the fight against obesity.
This is really promising news for those who want to shed a few pounds.
Test revealed by the the American Society for Nutrition’s Experimental Biology shows that the high levels of polyphenols contained in blueberries can actually break down existing fat cells in the body by up to 70%.
The test was performed using tissues from mice and polyphenols from blueberries and showed that a high does of blueberry polyphenols caused the lipids in the mouse tissue to decrease by almost three quarters at 73%. Even a low dose of blueberry polyphenols caused a 27% decrease.
Apart from the slimming effects, the pigments which make the fruit blue in blueberries contains a powerful antioxidant called anthocyanin which helps to fight against many health and skin ailments such as heart disease, cancer, diabetes, wrinkles, fine lines, and acne.
