When it comes to appearances, our smiles cannot be overlooked. A warm friendly smile shows someone you care.  It can brighten up someone’s day.

Compliment your sweet smile with a set of clean white shining teeth. Now teeth that is too white is unnatural and looks rather strange, especially for those that are 30 and up. You want your teeth to have a slight yellow tone. But not stained.

As we age, if we don’t take proper care of our oral hygiene, we are left with rotting stained teeth and infected gums. Factors such as smoking, excessive consumption of tea or coffee, red wine, sodas, consumption of sweet sugary foods, consumption of high acidic foods, excess consumption of fluoride all contribute to rotting yellow teeth.

Luckily, there are many modern and natural procedures to make our teeth white again.


 

Whitening toothpaste – it cannot make your teeth completely white again, but works through a duration of 6 months – 1 year to bring down a few tones of the yellow. Teeth whitening toothpastes work through the action of mild abrasives to remove extrinsic stains from the teeth surface. The negative side effects from using whitening toothpaste includes tooth sensitivity, gum irritation and additional tooth staining. The abrasive action can reduce staining but it can also damage the tooth enamel and cause tooth sensitivity.

Bleaching teeth – Yes, this works well to whiten your teeth again. There are whitening gels for in home application that uses a tray which is molded to fit your teeth, and all you need to do is add the gel and bite on to it for hours for the bleaching effect to work.

It uses bleaching agents such as carbamide peroxide, which claim to whiten teeth by up to nine shades. Again there are the common side effects of sensitivity and gum irritation after use.

Laser Teeth Whitening – With this technology, it too uses a bleaching gel, but a laser is used to activate it to speed up the process. Depending on the shade you want to achieve, the procedure will normally take only half hour to 1 hour. Results are impressive but expensive.

If you don’t want to run the risk of side effects and don’t want to be throwing large amounts of money away, nature has some great options available to help bring your teeth back their natural tone.

Orange Peel – rubbing the inside of the orange peel will help remove stains.

Chewing Gum – go to the supermarkets and grab a pack of surgarless chewing gum. Chewing up after you eat helps clean your teeth and remove food debris. It also increases the production of saliva which neutralizes acid that causes tooth decay.

Strawberries – grab a punnet of strawberries and start munching. It’s a natural remedy for teeth whitening. Make sure you actually bite and munch your way through the strawberries.

Baking soda – is great for removing stains, and also has strong anti-bacterial properties, which is helpful in killing the bacteria that can cause plaque. Mix baking soda and hydrogen peroxide to form toothpaste to brush with.

Walnut tree Bark – this traditional teeth whitening method has been passed down for centuries. The bark contains teeth whitening properties. Simply rub the bark over your teeth to lighten stains.

Salt – Add salt to your toothpaste the next time you brush our teeth, you’ll be surprised at the results after a few months.
