Good or Bad to Constantly Change Skin Care Products

When it comes to skin care, I’ve never been one to be loyal to any particular brand or product.

I like to play the field by mixing and matching different brands. If I occasionally find something that works, I may stick around for a little bit longer and give it an extra few months before moving on.

Sometimes, I’ll go through half a bottle of a moisturiser and if I find something else of interest, I’ll start with the new product. The thrill of switching products……Oh how exciting!

You may say I’m a “Cosmetic Skin Care Playgirl”.

So is this constant switching and changing good or bad for my skin?

Lets start by clarifying that my skin type is fair and highly sensitive, so not every product is suitable for me. Although I mix and match different brands and products, I’m very very careful with the products that I use making sure that each product is suitable for my sensitive skin.

Everyone has different skin types. What I’m concerned about are for those who likes to try new products for the sake of experimenting without finding out before hand whether it is suitable for their skin. For example, my friend Trish (aged 28) recently got a very aggressive anti-aging product that is designed for someone who is in their 40s or 50s. This is a big no no. Not only does my friend not need such a strong product, but the irritation and redness is actually causing more harm than good – plus lets not forget the $200 she had to fork out for the product.

Constantly changing skin care products is not the issue. Constantly changing to inappropriate and unsuitable products is the concern.

I’ve seen those who constantly change skin care products and using products that are not suitable for their skin types developing poor skin.  Those who constantly change their skin care products have the complexion, almost to a fault, reddish, sensitised, irritated and confused.

Oh… the fruit peel may seem interesting, and the anti-aging claims may be attractive, but slapping creams and serums that are not right for your skin is like putting poison that will irritate, aggitate and damage the natural balance of your skin mantle.

Nothing wrong with changing brands. In fact you’ll be missing out on some wonderful products if you stick with the one brand all your life. Every brand has at least 2 – 3 star products which are highly effective at giving you the results you want. It is up to you to do your due diligence work to make sure it is the right product for your skin.

I change, I mix and I match my skin care range every 2 month. I can say my skin is looking good and this regime has worked well for me through the years. Yes, I’m a ‘cosmetic playgirl’, but I am loyal in my relationship.
