Are Dr Hauschka products organic or biodynmaic?
Wherever possible, Dr Hauschka obtains ingredients from Biodynamic, organic or ethically wild harvested sources. Certification of our natural cosmetics (BDIH) demands proof that whenever a conventionally grown ingredient is used, that non-conventional sources are unavailable or of inadequate quality and that it is a necessary ingredient in the formulation. All ingredients must be obtained by ecological and socially responsible means and conventionally grown ingredients are tested for pesticide residue as part of our extensive quality control program.

Who certifies Dr Hauschka ingredients?
Dr Hauschka products are certified BDIH. The BDIH is a federal association of German manufacturers of drugs, supplements, cosmetics and personal care products whose "Guidelines for Natural" are the most selective in the world. Dr Hauschka’s line of holistic skin care is 100% Certified Natural by the BDIH, and we’re proud to display their "Certified Natural Cosmetic" seal on our product packaging.

Are your products tested on animals?
Dr Hauschka Skin Care opposes animal testing. We do not perform animal testing nor do we use ingredients that have been tested on animals. Dr Hauschka Skin Care products comply with guidelines regarding animal testing set forth by both PETA (People for Ethical Treatment of Animals) and the BDIH (German Federation of Natural Products Manufacturers). Details on these guidelines may be accessed online at: www.peta.org and www.kontrollierte-naturkosmetik.de

Why do some of Dr Hauschka products contain alcohol?
Herbs and flowers are the core of Dr Hauschka Skin Care preparations and many are extracted in a mixture of alcohol and water. We use a Certified Organic food-grade ethyl alcohol (ethanol) from grain, fruit or vegetable. Many plants are extracted in alcohol because it extracts the widest variety of plant constituents. Alcohol also serves as a natural emulsifier, preservative and carrier, helping ingredients penetrate the skin. Alcohol is not drying to the skin when part of a carefully formulated Dr Hauschka composition. Our alcohol is derived from a fermentation and distillation process and is gluten-free. Isopropyl alcohol is never used in Dr Hauschka Skin Care products.

Why do Dr Hauschka use aluminium tubes in some of its packaging?
Aluminum tubes are used because they add to the stability of our synthetic preservative-free creams. Unlike plastic, they do not re-form after dispensing, drawing oxygen into contact with the product. The tubes are coated with a food-grade resin which effectively prevents contact with or leaching into the product.

Can I use Dr Hauschka products if I'm pregnant or nursing?
All Dr Hauschka products are manufactured in accordance with EU Cosmetics Directive 76/768/EEC. Accordingly, all products are tested for safety and skin tolerability prior to being launched on the market. The carefully selected ingredients are well known, authorized for cosmetic products in the concentrations used, and are classified as being safe for use in skin care products. Dermatological tests are also conducted to ascertain the tolerability of the cosmetic products. If you have any concerns about a product or ingredient while pregnant or nursing, we advise you to discuss these with your doctor.

Do Dr Hauschka products contain Parabens or Sodium Lauryl Sulfate?
No, no synthetic preservatives of any kind, including parabens are ever used in Dr Hauschka Skin Care products. No SLS are ever used in Dr Hauschka Skin Care

Are there preservatives in Dr Hasuchka products?
Dr Hauschka products are formulated with a preservative system, which includes: natural preservatives like propolis and essential oils, stable ingredient compositions with natural resistance to spoilage, quality control testing of raw materials and products throughout production, high tech manufacturing facilities that minimize exposure to contaminants, and packaging that supports the stability of each product. Our holistic approach to formulating and manufacturing supports our commitment never to use synthetic preservatives.

What is the 'fragrance' or 'parfum' listed on Dr Hauschka ingredients?
Dr Hauschka fragrances are carefully composed, proprietary blends of the purest, highest quality essential oils. European regulations require that we list our pure essential oil scents as "Fragrance/Parfum". No synthetic fragrance or perfume ingredients are used to scent Dr. Hauschka products.

How Green are Dr Hauschka products?
All packaging materials are recyclable, except for the caps on the Aromatherapy Baths, which are made of a biodegradable cellulose material.
